Update: Evac Alerts Issued In Coldstream

The District of Coldstream has issued evacuation alerts to some homes along rising Coldstream Creek, some on Kirkland Drive and a couple on Highway 6

“As a result of recent heavy rains and rising creek levels, the District of Coldstream has issued an Evacuation Alert for the properties on the south end of Kirkland Drive bordering Coldstream Creek, and properties on the south side of Highway 6, bordering Coldstream Creek,” says a District release.

Impacted properties include 7903, 7906, 7909, 7910, 7912, 7913 and 7914 Kirkland Drive and 7588 and 7600 Highway 6.

That rain Wednesday has caused a lot of creeks to rise even more as the freshet takes hold.

Coldstream has activated its Emergency Operations Centre.

Coldstream’s Chief Administrative Officer Trevor Seibel says Coldstream Creek came up overnight.

“Overnight the creek rose to the point that it breached east of Ricardo Road crossing Highway Six and as well in the Postill Drive-Kirkland Drive area closer to the lake”

No homes are in danger yet.

“We’ve been in contact with the residents in that area. That’s the reason for getting the EOC activated, so we can mobilize quickly.”

Sandbags are available to residents with sites set up on Kalamalka Road across from Postill Drive. on Kirkland Drive and on School Road in Lavington.

“We’re working to see if we can get some additional resources to get some sandbags prepared and built but yeah right now we have the three locations where sand and bags are available and we’re trying to get some resources to help people either to prepare the sandbags so they have them readily accessible if needed.”

Meanwhile, District crews are checking the area of the breach near Ricardo Road to see how it can be dealt with.

Flaggers are on Highway Six to manage traffic through the area.
