1.9% Tax Increase In Enderby

Enderby Council has given third reading to its 2018 budget.

Mayor Greg McCune is very happy with what’s been put together and noted no one came to express any concerns with it.

“We ended up with a 1.9 per cent overall increase. Obviously, I think the provincial index was 2.1 last year so we’re under that.”

The increase works out to an extra 39 dollars and 86 cents for the average home assessed at 283 thousand dollars.

“One per cent of that goes to asset management, which is infrastructure upgrades which we’ve done every year now for, I think this is probably the fifth year I believe. For the rest of it to be under one per cent, it works out pretty well.”

McCune says with taxes coming at people left and right it’s good to keep the home rate within reason.

There are some major projects coming up, including upgrading Salmon Arm Drive for motorists and pedestrians.

It also does provide some infrastructure that we’ll be able to move forward. We’ve had some applications in the past we had to turn just through lack of infrastructure. So, hopefully this will solve some of those problems.”

McCune hopes that will also lead to some housing being built along the road.

Other projects include completing the 2nd phase of the Spray Park and completing a new Wildfire plan.

Final adoption of the budget is expected at a special council meeting Thursday morning.
