New Legion President On Pace For Growth

The new president of the Vernon Legion says the organization has always been important to her.

Jennifer Pace has taken over leadership of the branch that was in danger of closing due to a lack of new executive members.

Pace — who is an accountant — says her role will be to run meetings, build-up membership, and support veterans.

“We do a lot of fundraising and put a lot of money out to societies in Vernon, including the hospice house and the hospital. So it’s important I think to keep the organization going, and keep that money going to local charities where money’s needed.”

Her history with the club goes back to when she used to help out with the meat draws as a teenager.

“I think I really want to get the word out that this veteran’s organization is here to support the community, and support our veterans, and our service personnel including ambulance and police. That’s what we’re all about.”

Pace is one of four women on the seven member executive that will be talking more about their objectives later this month.

“So we have an executive meeting mid May and we’re going to talk about those sorts of things. We also have support from zone command as far as looking into grants and things we can do to generate some more money.”

Pace is one of the first ever women to lead the 91 year old group, but she says that’s no big deal, and she just wants to help the community.
