Public Hearing Planned For Proposed Coldstream Development

Apr 24, 2018 | 11:04 AM

Coldstream Council will be holding a public hearing into a housing development proposal at 7608 Coldstream Creek Road.

The property owner wants to turn the one and a half hectare site into single family housing.

Mayor Jim Garlick says there are a number of issues, including concerns from neighbours.

“They wanted to see park space and also they have concerns about the road configuration that would be in there. Right now they have a dead end street.”

They want to ensure no roads would be constructed that would infringe on that.

There are what are called stub roads in the area now that that act as connecting roads.

Garlick says he wants to hear from more people on how to manage development.

“I think getting other people’s comments on, okay do we create a bunch of cul-de-sacs in an area or is it better for transportation to have connections going through it.”

The property in question is one of a few former ALR properties in the region poised for some sort of development in the future

The mayor says it’s a balancing act to make the right decision.

“We do have these remaining properties that are out of the ALR for future development and as council members we’re trying to balance how the community grows.”

While not speaking against the proposal, Garlick says higher density on land outside of the ALR preserves the amount of marketable accommodation.

District Staff will be reviewing the proposal and comments so far as it prepares a public hearing date.

The subject property fronts Coldstream Creek Road between Pine Drive and Meadow Road.
