BX Elementary Expansion Plan Moves to Next Phase

Apr 23, 2018 | 11:20 AM

The provincial government is showing some interest in the Vernon School District’s plan to expand BX Elementary School.

The Education Ministry is asking the District for a Project Definition Report.

School Board Chair Kelly Smith says the district has until September 30th to submit all the costs.

“We are optimistic that project will see completion. It will depend totally on the Project Definition Report that we send in and the Ministry’s ability to get the funding for that project.”

Expansion was included in the 2016 long term facilities plan.

“At that time BX was bursting at the seams. It actually has so many portables. What we’re hoping to add is ten classrooms.”

The school has five portables now and the plan was to eliminate the need for them altogether.

“But this project won’t be completed for a number of years, if it is approved, so we’re looking down the road anyhow. We’re predicting growth year-after-year at that school.”

The BX expansion has been identified as the first priority for expansion projects.
