New Website Promotes Vernon As Place To Live

Jan 23, 2018 | 1:00 PM

People thinking about moving to Vernon have a new way to find out more about the community.

MovingtoVernon.ca has officially been launched in a partnership between the city and Social Planning Council’s Immigration Partnership Council.

SPC executive director Annette Sharkey says it’s a one stop place for information.

“It’s something that can highlight what Vernon has, what resources are here. It really helps to encourage them to see that this is a very vibrant, thriving community and a place that they would want to call home,” Sharkey told city council.

The city is hosting and updating the site, which is also part of a social media campaign to promote the new service.

Sharkey says the site was designed with input from local businesses

“We asked them, ‘what are some of the challenges when you’re recruiting people to our community?’ And the consensus was a one stop place for people to look at when they’re considering moving to the community.”

Sharkey says with an aging population, Vernon needs to attract more skilled labour.
