Robbery At Sleep Country

Jan 23, 2018 | 12:01 PM

RCMP are looking for a man who robbed the Sleep Country Canada store in the 2400 block of 58th Avenue last evening.

Police say a man entered the store about 8 pm asking the lone employee about cheap mattresses and then allegedly produced a knife.

They say the employee was then ordered to get behind the counter where his hands and feet were bound with clear packing tape.

No other customers were in the store and the thief left with an undisclosed amount of cash.

RCMP Constable Kelley Brett says the employee was not hurt and was able to break free of his restraints and call police.

A search of the area did not turn up any sign of the suspect.

He is described as Caucasian, with a blemished complexion, short dark hair, in his late 30’s to early 40’s, standing approximately 5’10 tall with a slim build.

The man was wearing a white jacket with orange stripes with the words “Ski Doo” and “Free Style” on the right arm, a small black beanie style toque, black sneakers and carrying a black back pack with red writing on it.

The knife used in the robbery is described as a hunting knife with a 4 – 5 inch blade with a green handle and a crescent moon shape carved out of the tip.

“Investigators are asking businesses in the area to review any surveillance footage which may have captured the suspect as he arrived and departed after committing the robbery.” Adds Brett. “Being that the store is well lit and that it was dark outside, the chances of the general public seeing something through the large store front windows is very possible”.
