Junior Chamber International in Vernon has named Cindy Masters as its Citizen of the Year.
Masters is the Development Officer for Kindale Developmental Association.
She’s known for her tireless work, not just for Kindale but for various community causes.
“I do think that we all have something to give and it’s to reach out and give what you can and do what you can. I started volunteering a long time ago and it’s always been something that’s very important to me.”
She says the award is still sinking in this morning, but she feels very honoured to be recognized.
“I do believe in the words of Winston Churchill’s quote that we do make a living by what we get and we make a life by what we give. And then my personal one is that together we do make a difference. It’s not that I’m doing these things alone. They’re happening with a group of people and it’s a community.”
As she says, she’s just one person and isn’t getting involved to be recognized.
‘If everyone does just one simple thing today to be kind to one another. It’s a wave of kindness. I do believe it’s something that catches on. And often I think people don’t think about what they can do for others, but everyone can do something, a little bit.”
Masters will be honored in the Vernon Winter Carnival Parade on February 3rd and at the Vernon Winter Carnival Winter Break Out at Schubert Centre on February 7th.

Cindy Masters has been named Vernon’s Good Citizen of the year for 2017 by the local branch of Junior Chamber International.
Masters, the Development Officer for Kindale Developmental Association, received the surprise notice last evening during a Greater Vernon Chambers Business event.
She was nominated by Theresa Beach who noted Cindy’s tireless work with Kindale, which serves adults and youth with diverse abilities to be able to participate in community events and employment.
She is involved in many fundraising and awareness campaigns for Kindale as well as many other comminity events including Funtastic Director, the Vernon Vipers Boosters Club, Vernon Toastmasters and 100+ Women just to name a few.
Masters will be honored in the Vernon Winter Carnival Parade on February 3rd and at the Vernon Winter Carnival Winter Break Out at Schubert Centre on February 7th.
