Construction Sends Enderby Over The Top

Enderby was a boomtown last year with new construction.

Council Monday night was presented with the the final report on building activity, which saw an increase of 228 per cent over 2016..

Mayor Greg McCune he thinks 2018 is also going to be strong.

“You know, you talk to all the builders. I had coffee with one last Friday and he’s booked through for about 18 months so you know, he’s not even looking for any new projects, so that’s a good sign.”

Building values posted in 2017 was just over 10.8 million dollars.

Most of that due to the 2nd phase construction of Memorial Terrace, a supportive housing development for seniors.

McCune thinks interest is quite broad from single to multi family and seniors.

“Like That’s all happening. You know, I think of the two to three pieces of property that now the owners are feeling it’s the time, again they’re looking at that broad spectrum too.”

He says a lot of people in the community can feel a change coming.

“Again, some of the pieces of property we have in town are long time residents that just went, you know what, when the time is the time I’m in. and now they’re coming to city hall. They’re calling me because they know this is it.”

McCune adds if the region adopts a Rural Economic Development plan that is being promoted by the Regional District, that can only help growth.
