New Record For Airport

Passenger counts at Kelowna International Airport were up 9 percent in 2017.

YLW served over 1.8 million passengers (1,893,470), 161-thousand more than the year before.

August was the facility’s busiest month ever with 179,153 users, a few thousand ahead of December with 177,131 passengers.

“These numbers certainly exceed our projections,” says Sam Samaddar, Airport Director. “It’s great news. The increase in travellers translates directly to a boost to the regional economy, with an increase in tourism and support for local businesses.”

Samaddar says to accommodate the growth, YLW is working on a new development program, as part of the airport’s Master Plan.

“This year we saw remarkable growth in our capacity, with increases to route frequency, upgauging of aircraft and the addition of a new airline,” says Samaddar. “We’ve also been working hard with our tourism partners across the globe to promote YLW as a four-season destination.”
