Hospitalized Councillor Returns To Meetings

Jan 9, 2018 | 6:00 PM

A veteran member of Coldstream council is back providing input with his colleagues — although not in the traditional manner.

Glen Taylor — who suffered a serious spinal injury while working at the O’Keefe Ranch last October — continues his recovery in Vancouver General Hospital.

Mayor Jim Garlick says Taylor took part in Monday’s council meeting by telephone.

“When you have a council, it’s nice to have everyone included,” Garlick tells Beach Radio News.

“We’re going to get a conference call speaker and receiver put into the council chamber. He’s doing it through speaker phone at this time. He seems to be in higher spirits,” adds Garlick.

Taylor plans to leave hospital in late February, and if all goes well, he could return to work later this year.

However he says his full recovery could take 18 months.

He was the ranch’s manager at the time of the accident.

Taylor tells the Morning Star he was using a tractor/forklift to pick up a drum at the ranch, when the drum fell on his head, leaving him unable to move.

He ended up having surgery to add three plates to his spine to relieve the pressure, and he’s now waiting for the swelling to subside.
