The Vernon Salvation Army’s Kettle campaign is off to a good start.
Lieutenant Stefan Reid says their annual fundraiser kicked off with a live broadcast on Kiss FM Thursday from Save On Foods in the Village Green Mall.
“We did over $1,700 there alone yesterday, and across the city, we did over $3,400 on our first day. For our total campaign, which we started last Tuesday, we’re already over $52,000,” Reid tells Kiss FM.
The goal is 500-hundred thousand dollars for programs like the food bank which has seen increased demand this year.
Volunteers are needed to man the kettles for two hour shifts, with about 55 percent of the shifts still open.
“So if people want to sign up and ring the bells, they can go to www.vernonhouseofhope.com an click on our volunteer button and you can pick the location you want to volunteer at,” says Reid.
There is about 8 locations for the kettles this week, with five more being added next week.
