Update: Police Provide Details On Hit Flag Person

UPDATE 4 pm:

A flag person suffered serious injuries after being hit while working east of Vernon this morning.

RCMP say the 66 year old female worker was hit by a car in a construction zone between School Road and Hill Drive on Highway 6 in Lavington.

She was transported by air ambulance to hospital.

The 75 year old driver was apparently stopped by the traffic control person in an area reduced to one lane of traffic.

Police say it appears the driver was unable to stop in time, and hit the flag person.

“The traffic control person, aged 66,  has since been transported to hospital with serious injuries,” says RCMP Staff Sgt. Annie Linteau.  “The 75-year-old driver of the vehicle involved is cooperating with the investigation and a number of witnesses have been identified.”

The highway was closed for about four hours, with detours in effect.

Highway 6 has reopened.

Highway 6 in Lavington is expected to reopen later today as police investigate a serious collision.

A flag person was injured after being hit by a car while in a construction zone near School Road this morning.

Lavington Fire chief Marty Wright says the female worker had undetermined injuries and was  transported by air ambulance to hospital.

The driver remained at the scene.

RCMP have yet to release official details.

Drive BC says Highway 6 could reopen at 4 pm.

Vehicles are being detoured around the crash site on Hill Drive and School Road.

UPDATE 11:10 am

A serious incident has closed down Highway 6 in Lavington.

Lavington Fire Chief Marty Wright says a female flag person was hit by a car near School Road, and had to be air ambulance to hospital with undetermined injuries.

“She is not in the best of shape, let’s just say, and the air ambulance is here for a reason,” Wright tells Kiss FM.

The chief say the driver of the car involved did stop, and police are investigating.

“Yes, and the accident re-creators are all here, and they’ve got the highway shut right down.”

No other details are being released.

Highway 6 is closed to traffic near the site, with vehicles being detoured on School Road and Hill Drive.

UPDATE: 10:45 am

Dispatch reports say a helicopter is being flown in to transport the injured person.

Traffic is being detoured around the site.


10 am:

Dispatch reports say a flag person has been hit by a vehicle on Highway 6 in Lavington.

The female worker was said to be having difficulty breathing.

The incident happened in a construction zone near School Road around 10 am

The Coldstream and Lavington Fire Departments are responding.
