Vernon Council To Hold Extra Summer Meeting

Nov 16, 2017 | 7:22 AM

Vernon council — and City staff — will have to have work a little harder next summer.

Council usually holds just one meeting in July and August to allow more vacation time for staff.

That was the plan again as part of the proposed meeting dates shown to council this week.

However, councillor Brian Quiring argued that slowdown has an impact on the development community which is busy in the summer and needs projects approved.

Quiring led a motion to have two meetings in July — on the 9th and 23rd — and to stick with just one in August on the 13th.

Councillor Bob Spiers was opposed, saying council can hold special meetings whenever they are needed.

There will also only be one Vernon council meeting in October 2018 due to the municipal elections on Oct. 20th.
