Value Of Building Permits In Armstrong Soars

Nov 16, 2017 | 7:14 AM

It’s been a big year for growth in the City of Armstrong

Mayor Chris Pieper says while only one building permit was issued in October, this has been a busy year.

“Probably one of our biggest years as far as building permits and construction goes. When you look at the development around the golf course and up by Tim Horton’s as well as infill within our community it shows that Armstrong is growing.”

The value of building permits to October has almost doubled compared with the same period in 2016.

“We’ve had 39 housing units with an estimated value of 15.5 million dollars. Last year at this time we had 24 units and 7.2 million dollars.”
Chris Pieper agrees it gives pause for thought as to how to find room in an area that has a lot of land in the ALR.
“There’s infilling. You know some people are building carriage houses or will be, apartments, smaller lots. All those kinds of initiatives to make housing a little more affordable.”

Pieper expects the next year to see continued growth and the city will have to find ways to meet the challenge.
