Service For Cenotaph?
One Vernon councillor would like to see the city’s Cenotaph Park be part of future Remembrance Day ceremonies.
Catherine Lord says Kal Tire Place provides a great venue for the service, but she’s also read criticism on social media about not having anything at the 31st Avenue Cenotaph.
“It would not hurt us at all to have some sort of recognition at the Cenotaph,” said Lord.
She says the city could provide a microphone and city member to speak at the Cenotaph.
Lord was able to get council’s consent to approach the Royal Canadian Legion to see if they are interested.
Mayor Akbal Mund says when you consider the BC Dragoons and cemetery, there could be 3 or 4 sites for services, which he doesn’t see a need for.
Local Legion president Bill Balcaen says they like holding it indoors at Kal Tire Place, saying it’s comfortable, and good for families.
