Remembrance Day Services In North Okanagan

Get your poppy on — and show your support for veterans.

Remembrance Day ceremonies will be held across the country Saturday.

Vernon’s will be at Kal Tire Place, where it’s been held  since 2003.

Organizer Ron Heuman, past president of the Royal Canadian Legion, says the service will focus on the veterans.

“There is two types of veterans: the traditional veterans who served during World War I and II, and the Korean War.  And there there are the modern day veterans, people who have served in places like Afghanistan, United Nations, Iraq and so on,” Heuman tells Kiss FM.

He says there will be a guest speaker.

“Dennis Windsor is going to speak on Vimy Ridge. We are celebrating 100 years since Canada’s involvement. He’s not a veteran, but he’s more of a military historian.”

Heuman says they expect a good turn out, like past years.

“We expect Kal Tire Place to be full. The maximum if 25-hundred and we’ll be close to three-thousand.”

The doors will open at 9:30 with the service at 10:15, and due to the construction at Kal Tire Place, people are asked to arrive early and car pool if possible.

Disabled parking sites are now located in the new parking lot south of the building along 43rd Avenue.

There will be parking lot attendants on hand to help people out.

There is also services in Coldstream (Cenotaph 10:45 am), Lavington (Cenotaph 10:45), Lumby (Cenotaph 10:55), Cherryville (Community Hall 10:40), Armstrong (Hassen Arena 10:45), Enderby (Cenotaph 10:40) and the Okanagan Indian Band office (10:45).
