Man facing numerous charges connected with business break and enter

A man is in custody after breaking in and stealing items from a Vernon business.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP responded to an alarm at a business in the 5200 block of 24th Street in the early morning hours Sunday.

Officers learned from the property representative that a man had broken into a business, and upon arrival found substantial damage to the property, though the suspect had already fled the area with stolen goods.

“During the investigation, frontline officers viewed the video surveillance of the break-in from the business,” Corp. Tania Finn, Media Relations Officer for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, said.

“Photos of the suspect were secured and shared with other police officers in the area as well as provided a list of the stolen items.”

A few hours after the break in a police officer on patrol located a man matching the suspect’s description and carrying what appeared to be the stolen property.

The Mountie attempted to arrest the man, but he refused to comply and attempted to flee. A second officer arrived on the scene and together they were able to capture the man without further incident, though the stolen property was damaged during the arrest.

The suspect, a 39-year-old Vernon man, was taken into custody and though the investigation was ongoing RCMP said he was facing a number of charges including break and enter with intent, possession of stolen property, and resisting arrest.
