Fire mitigation project planned near Monte Lake

The Okanagan Shuswap Natural Resource District will be undertaking a fire fuel management project near Monte Lake early next week.

Supported by the B.C. Wildfire Service, the work will involve removing dead and burnt trees near a new proposed fence line; bucking and piling felled trees and debris; burning around 100 piles of fire hazards and debris; and providing saw training opportunities for wildfire ground crews.

The work could begin as early as Monday, Oct. 5, weather and conditions permitting.

The BCWS said the work would result in smoke being visible in the area, but assured the public the project would be closely monitored and controlled.
