Broken rotor blade cause of 2023 YLW emergency landing

The Transportation Safety Board said a broken rotor blade caused an engine fire that forced a WestJet flight to make an emergency landing at Kelowna International Airport three years ago.

The Dash-8 carrying 74 passengers and four crew was flying from Kamloops to Calgary in March 2023 when an engine fire warning sounded shortly after takeoff.

Investigators say a fractured compressor rotor blade caused a surge and loss of power, triggering the fire. The engine was shut down and the aircraft made a safe, single-engine landing.
