The statement says $20,000 of the penalties has been directed to the Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation, while the remaining $7,000 was imposed as a fine.

Insp. Simon Gravel says feeding wildlife can lead to animals to associate humans with food and create conflict as they’re more likely to enter neighbourhoods.

“While feeding wildlife may seem harmless, it can have serious consequences,” he says in a video posted by the Conservation Officer Service on social media.

“To help keep communities safe and wildlife wild, never feed wild animals, keep your distance, and properly secure garbage and other attractants.”
