B.C. wildfire conditions remain challenging

B.C. Forests Minister Ravi Parmar says the province is continuing to see challenging wildfire conditions.

As of Tuesday morning, there are 126 active wildfires across B.C., with 104 new fires reported over the past seven days. In that same period, 85 fires have been declared out.

Parmar says hot and dry conditions are expected to continue in much of the province.

“Unless the weather picture changes in the coming week, the province will continue to see hotter temperatures and drier conditions,” Parmar said.

He pointed to the Bald Range wildfire near Summerland as an example of the intensity firefighters are facing.

“Again, the Bald Range fire was a prime example of the intensity of the fires that we’re seeing here in British Columbia,” he said.

Orange and yellow air quality warnings remain in place across a large part of the province, with major fires burning near Boston Bar, in the Cariboo and across the Okanagan.
