July 17, 1952 – July 20, 2026

Joanna was born to Jean and Morris Bowley-Booth and sister, Jane, in Lichfield England. Her family moved to the Village of Fradswell shortly after and she spent her formative and teenage years in the Staffordshire area. Joanna met her husband and best friend Paul Nicholls on the school bus at age 11. Their friendship developed into a relationship and they spent their time at the local Youth Club dancing, ping pong and listening to music. Joanna particularly liked the Rolling Stones. Joanna and Paul married as teenagers at St. James the Less church in Fradswell on October 23, 1968.

The couple started their family early and moved to Canada in 1974, first living in Calgary and shortly after relocating to Lacombe. In Lacombe Joanna worked for a local tannery before settling into a 25-year career as a furrier at Sisson’s Furs in Red Deer.

Joanna and Paul enjoyed cross country skiing, golf, cycling, travel and late-night card games with friends. Joanna enjoyed riding motorcycles, in fact she would try anything that was a bit of a thrill, going fast was okay just no heights, she was terrified of heights. Joanna was a young grandmother and she loved spending time with all of her grandchildren, taking them camping for a week in the summer or to a Hotel with a pool just to spend time with them. She also loved shoes and fashion, always having a bit of fun with her hair style and colour.

After retirement Joanna and Paul moved for the last time to Vernon BC. Their summers were spent in the garden with the flowers, volunteering at the Schubert Center and Joanna played Canasta-hand and foot with the “card ladies”. Winters were spent in San Carlos, Mexico where they soaked up the sun, volunteered with Castaway kids and made many good friends. Joanna loved Mexico and all of the friends they met there over the years.

Joanna is survived by her loving husband Paul, her two children Carmen (Fred), and James (Marion), her 5 grandchildren; Justin, Joel, Dylan (Cassidy), Jackson, Jamie, many friends and family members in England. Joanna’s positive and fun-loving energy will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.

As per Joanna’s wishes, there will be no formal service. A Celebration of Life will be held in Vernon, British Columbia, at a later date. Details will be shared in the near future.
