Limit to 30% Allotted Water

Further water restrictions coming for North Okanagan agricultural properties, special meeting with details scheduled

Jul 10, 2026 | 2:33 PM

Further restrictions will be coming down the pipe that will affect agricultural properties in the North Okanagan.

With Stage 3 Water Restrictions in place and concerns about the water reservoir levels still high Greater Vernon Water will be limiting agricultural customers to 30 per cent of their annual water allocation, prorated from June 14. Water service will be shut off once the limit is reached.

A special meeting will be held at Coldstream Community Hall at 5 p.m. July 21 where Greater Vernon Water staff, agricultural specialists, and customers will review progress and discuss ongoing efforts to reduce water use while maintaining operations.

GVW noted that customers can apply for transfer of allocation with another property owner, so long as both properties have farm classifications. For more information about this program, people can contact the Agricultural Coordinator at 250-804-9260 or at jess.washtock@gmail.com.

Additionally, the B.C. Government has health and wellness resources for farmers, farm workers, processors and their families through AgSafe B.C.

North Okanagan produces experiencing feed shortages may also be able to access assistance through the B.C. Cattlemen’s Association, and people with crop insurance coverage could also contact the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Production Insurance representative at 1-888-332-3352 or at productioninsurance.abbotsford@gov.bc.ca.
