Thunderstorm Watch issued for the Okanagan

Jun 30, 2026 | 10:56 AM

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch was issued for the North and Central Okanagan Tuesday.

Environment Canada said “conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.”

The agency urged people to seek shelter “when the thunder roars,” as lightning strikes could be deadly, with Statistics Canada reporting lightning kills two or three Canadians and injures another 180 on average each year.

Environment Canada added the storm could cause flash floods and hazards on the road, and advised people be prepared and cautious.
