Police have arrested a person believed to be linked to a string of vandalism.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP said a series of property damage incidents involving breaking glass and other vandalism had occurred at Vernon businesses over the past several weeks, and the investigation into these crimes resulted in police identifying a potential suspect.

The person was apprehended but had not been charged with any crimes as of Wednesday, April 15.

“As part of the ongoing investigation, one individual believed to be linked to the recent string of incidents has been arrested and is currently in police custody awaiting a court appearance”, Inspector Neil Kennedy, Operations Officer for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, stated.

“The arrest follows steady investigative work by officers across a number of related files.”

Mounties said local business owners invest time, effort and resources to serve the community, and the police force understands the impacts these types of crimes have in terms of unexpected costs and disruptions.

“We know how frustrating this has been for local business owners,” Kennedy said.

“They work hard to operate and support our community, and they shouldn’t have to deal with the added stress of repeated vandalism. We’re going to keep supporting them and continue to work hard at reducing this type of crime and it’s impact on our community.”

The investigation into the vandalism was ongoing as of time of publication and anyone with information related to the cases was asked to contact the Vernon RCMP at 250-545-7171.
