Edward Kitzman passed away peacefully on April 5, 2026 at 90 years of age, in Vernon BC. He was born March 31, 1936 in Psari Poland to Emil & Matilda Kitzman. Ed is survived by his wife Shirley, his siblings, Edith (Richard Liefke), Ewald (Peggy), Alfred (Joyce) & Erica Timmers. He has 2 sons, David (Karin) Nanaimo BC, Grant (Michelle) Vernon BC, and daughter Deanna (Terry Cunning) Vernon BC. 3 grandchildren Mike, Britney and Madison, along with 6 great grandchildren David, Savannah, Gracie, Ivy, Lincoln and Pearl.
In 1951 the family emigrated from Germany to Canada eventually arriving in Vernon. As a 15 year old Ed started working to help out the family. He worked for CP rail near Revelstoke before apprenticing with a stone mason and eventually starting his own business. Ed built all his own houses and was proficient in many aspects of the construction industry. Ed loved the outdoors hunting, fishing, feeding the birds and especially loved a rainbow trout on the end of his line. He took his family on camping trips and eventually built a small cabin on the west side of Okanagan lake. As a family many summer days were spent swimming, water skiing, BBQing & evenings watching stars or sitting by the fire. Ed also took up wine & beer making. It was a lifelong hobby with many fine wines produced for family and friends. He took pride in making his wines in the traditional form. He would purchase local grapes & crush and press them to produce the juice for winemaking.
We will miss the sparkle in his eyes when he was playing with his grandchildren, great grandchildren and his beloved dogs. Happy fishing dad…
A celebration of life will be held April 15, 2026 at 2:00 pm. The tea room Bethel funeral home. Attire is informal.
