Some residents still displaced from fatal apartment fire

A number of residents at a Vernon apartment building have been able to return home a week after a fatal fire.

The blaze sparked in a unit around 6 a.m. March 25 and spread to neighbouring apartments at the Parkview Garden Apts. building on 36th Street. The City of Vernon said initial assessments were completed and a number of residents were able to return home Wednesday, April 1.

However, not all of the residents were able to return home due extensive damage to their units, and the city said Emergency Support Services and other partner agencies were assisting those still displaced.

“At this time, there is no confirmed timeline for when remaining residents may be able to return, as repair planning and further assessments are ongoing,” the city said in a release.
