Bike Skills Park For Vernon

Jul 10, 2017 | 6:25 AM

A proposed bike skills park in Vernon’s Becker Park is expected to be ready for use by this fall.

Rob Miles, long range planning manager for the City of Vernon, says the facility will allow mountain bikers of all ages to learn and practice new skills in a planned, safe environment.

“They typically include features such as dirt jumps, a pump track, wood-rock features, and progression trails for young kids and adults that are developing their riding skills,” Miles tells Kiss FM.

Miles says the project is budgeted to cost around $80,000.

He says not all of that will come from the City.

“We received some very generous contributions and support from a number of community organizations including the Ford Family Foundation, Funtastic, Kal Rotary, and the Community Foundation of North Okanagan.”

Miles says they have been working closely with the North Okanagan Cycling Society.

Miles says the public is invited to attend an open house on the project Thursday from 4 to 7 at the Vernon Rec Centre.

“We will have a draft concept, and we’ll be looking for ideas from the public and feedback on how we can make the park better.”

Construction is expected to start later this summer at the north end of the park, adjacent to the curling club parking lot.
