Wildfire Numbers Soar

Jul 7, 2017 | 11:03 PM

Today has been one of B.C.’s busiest wildfire days in recent memory

The BC Wildfire Service now says there have been 138 confirmed wildfire starts across the province, primarily in the central interior.

Lightning, high temperatures, and strong winds were contributing factors.

Many of these wildfires are demonstrating aggressive fire behaviour.

Earlier Friday night the government declared a Provincial State of Emergency for the first time in 14 years.

The state of emergency gives agencies such as Emergency Management BC, the Fire Commissioner, the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations and the RCMP authority under the Emergency Program Act to take every action necessary to fight these wildfires and protect residents and their communities.

For evacuation information, please see:

* Cariboo Regional District Emergency Operations Centre for evacuation information in the Williams Lake, 103 Mile House, 105 Mile House, Lac La Hache, and 108 Mile Ranch Community areas.
* Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen for evacuation information for the Princeton.
* Thompson-Nicola Regional District for the Cache Creek, Ashcroft, and Little Fort areas.
