Kelowna business forum draws crowd, highlights crime and justice pressures

Jan 28, 2026 | 11:56 AM

More than 200 business owners and community members attended a City of Kelowna safety forum at the Kelowna Community Theatre Tuesday night, focused on property crime and social disorder.

Panelists included Mayor Tom Dyas, Kelowna RCMP leadership, B.C.’s community safety minister and a representative of the B.C. Crown Counsel Association, who spoke about enforcement, court capacity and public safety concerns.

City officials outlined planned steps such as a registry to help police identify private security cameras during investigations and a rebate program to help businesses invest in security upgrades.

Police and justice representatives pointed to staffing pressures, repeat offending and the need for more treatment options for people dealing with addiction.

Some attendees said they left wanting clearer timelines and more opportunity for public input, while city leaders said feedback from the session will help shape future safety measures and ongoing discussions with other levels of government.
