Two treated for smoke inhalation after carriage house fire in Kelowna

Jan 28, 2026 | 11:13 AM

Two people were treated for smoke inhalation following a carriage house fire in Kelowna Tuesday afternoon.

The Kelowna Fire Department says crews were called to the 800 block of Cadder Avenue at about 4 p.m., Tuesday after reports of a structure fire. The first arriving officer reported visible flames on the side of the building and smoke throughout the structure.

Firefighters used multiple hose lines to knock down the fire and ventilated the building to clear smoke. The carriage house sustained significant damage to the main floor.

Two residents safely evacuated on their own and were assessed and treated by BC Emergency Health Services.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The response included four engines, one ladder truck, one rescue unit and one command unit, with a total of 21 fire personnel on scene. RCMP, BC Emergency Health Services and FortisBC also attended.

Fire officials are reminding residents to make sure smoke alarms are installed and working properly.
