Man spotted on Vernon stable CCTV in suspicious incident, RCMP investigating

Jan 26, 2026 | 10:02 AM

A Vernon equestrian centre owner is asking for the public’s help after a disturbing incident on her property in the BX area.

Early Saturday morning, the owner posted to social media after discovering footage from her security cameras showing a man entering a paddock and inappropriately handling up to three horses.

A social media post claimed the horses were “assaulted.”

The person in the images has since been identified.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP said police received a report of a suspicious person trespassing on a rural Vernon property at around 1 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, but the individual fled before police arrived and a subsequent search by officers and police dogs did not result in the man being found at the time.

Police said they reviewed security footage from the property and have determined the man committed a criminal offence while in the enclosed animal pen.

“A social media post related to this incident has received significant public attention and has resulted in a large volume of information being provided to police,” Constable Chris Terleski, Media Relations Officer for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, said.

“Investigators actively reviewed this information, and a suspect has been identified. The investigation remains ongoing.”
