Osoyoos sets new January daytime high as Okanagan enjoys mild winter weather

Jan 16, 2026 | 11:57 AM

The Okanagan has seen an unusually mild stretch of winter weather this week, with temperatures well above seasonal averages in many communities.

While Kelowna did not reach any record highs, Osoyoos recorded a daytime high of 11.6 C on Thursday, setting a new January record for the town.

The previous daily January record of 11.1 C was set in 1974, with official weather records for the area dating back to 1954. Despite the warmth, the temperature remains below Osoyoos all-time January high of 16.1 C, set on January 13, 2014.

Meteorologists say these mild temperatures are part of a broader trend of above-average winter conditions in parts of the Okanagan, though overnight lows still dip below freezing in many areas.
