City says it’s doing its part on downtown safety and security challenges

The City of Kelowna said it is doing its part to address safety and social disorder challenges for Kelowna businesses.

Darren Caul, the city’s Community Safety Director, said over the past two weeks, RCMP and Bylaw Services have increased their presence in the downtown core, and City Community Safety staff have been connecting with businesses, which he said is already starting to see progress.

“We continue to work with our community partners and local businesses to improve the situations in some parts of our community which have been experiencing acute issues related to social disorder and crime recently,” he said, in part, in a media release Thursday.

The city will host a Community Safety Business Forum on January 27 to share information and prioritize solutions by bringing together business owners with City leadership, RCMP, and provincial representatives.
