Plover case returns to court, adjourned to February

Jan 13, 2026 | 12:25 PM

The murder case against a Kelowna man accused in the death of his estranged wife returned to court Tuesday, but the appearance was largely procedural.

James Edward Plover, who is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the July 2025 death of Bailey McCourt, appeared briefly as the matter was adjourned to Feb. 12 at 9 a.m. in courtroom 100.

According to the prosecution, the delay will allow additional time for Plover to consult with counsel and for both sides to review disclosure.

Plover remains in custody. His case has drawn widespread attention in the Central Okanagan and across the province, prompting ongoing calls for stronger responses to intimate partner violence and bail reform.
