New program will help men with mental health challenges

The YMCA of Southern Interior is planning to launch a new program aimed at supporting men who are dealing with stress, anxiety, and other mental health challenges.

The local YCMA branch will be launching Y Mind for Men, a free virtual program available to men aged 18 to 30 across B.C., on February 10.

The agency said this program was designed to “empower participants” by providing them with a safe, judgement-free online space to learn coping strategies, connect with others, and foster resiliency.

“Men often feel pressure to ‘tough it out’ when they’re struggling, but that can lead to isolation and worsening mental health,” Cassandra Thomas, General Manager of Community Services and Innovation at the YMCA of Southern Interior B.C., stated.

“Y Mind for Men is about breaking that cycle and creating a space where young men can share openly, learn practical tools, and find strength in each other.”

The program will be offered for free virtually for young men across the province.

People who participate will also receive a complimentary 90-day YMCA membership, which the agency said will help with their holistic wellbeing.

YMCA Southern Interior B.C. will host information sessions about the Y Mind for Men initiative on January 27 and February 3, people can register for those sessions by sending an email here.
