One person apprehended in connection with suspicious activity in Coldstream

One person was arrested but later released in connection to what police say was suspicious activity in Coldstream.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP received a report of a suspicious individual outside a residence on Tamarack Drive shortly after midnight Thursday, Dec. 11.

It was believed the person could potentially be in possession of a firearm, and officers responded but could not locate the suspect.

Later that day, at approximately 12:30 p.m., police responded to a second call of a suspicious person in the same area and matching the description of the first individual.

Officers responded and established a containment area, resulting in the suspect being located and arrested without incident.

“We recognize that a larger police presence, particularly in a residential neighbourhood, can at times draw attention or concern from residents,” Constable Chris Terleski, Media Relations Officer for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, stated.

“At no point during the event was there believed to be any immediate or direct risk to the public. We want to reassure everyone that in any response, intervention, or investigation, the safety of the public will always be our highest priority. Officers on the ground were in direct communication with residents in the immediate area and we want to thank them for their assistance and co-operation.”

The RCMP did not say if the individual was in possession of a firearm at the time of the arrest.

The suspect was released from custody pending further investigation.
