Kelowna council approves permit for new Hyatt hotel
Kelowna city council has approved a development permit for a six-storey Hyatt House hotel proposed for Highway 97 near McCurdy Road.
The project includes 125 rooms along with a restaurant, fitness amenities and function rooms. City staff say the design meets the Official Community Plan guidelines for industrial and service commercial development, despite the narrow shape of the property.
The hotel will feature underground parking, improved pedestrian connections and a pocket park linking the site to the Okanagan Rail Trail. Staff say guests will be able to bike downtown in about 30 minutes, helping support the city’s shift toward sustainable transportation.
The property sits along the Highway 97 transit corridor and just north of Kelowna’s core area. The city says the hotel will support tourism and job creation as Kelowna continues to grow as the regions economic hub.
