Park Rezoned, For Sale

Coldstream residents oppose rezoning, sale of green space

A group of Coldstream residents are opposing a plan to sell a small park property.

Mike Sanford, a Coldstream resident, told Vernon Matters that a small park at the corner of Pointe Sage Drive and Pointe Sage Crescent had been rezoned and listed for sale.

Sanford and other area residents attended the Coldstream Council meeting on Monday, Dec. 8, where he will put forward a delegation opposing the decision to reclassify and sell the property.

In an email to Vernon Matters, Sanford said the Pointe Sage neighbourhood was growing and that this property was used by the area residents as a park and green space, as there were no other parks nearby.

Sanford went on to say that a referendum should have been held before the park designation was removed, but claimed residents were not consulted in the decision.

The concerned resident added that if the property is sold, then the money be placed in a Parkland Acquisition Reserve Trust Fund, and not used for general operations or unrelated capital projects.

The delegation from Sanford was accepted as information and will be brought forward for further deliberation at the meeting on January 12.

The District of Coldstream had not responded to a request for comment from Vernon Matters as of the time of publication.
