Highway 97 near Summerland sees small rockfall, crews assessing slope
Crews have been on site Tuesday morning assessing a section of Highway 97 near Summerland after a minor rockfall affected the roadway.
Officials from the Ministry of Transportation say the area will undergo a more detailed geotechnical investigation to ensure the slope is stable. For several hours late Monday night and overnight, traffic was reduced to a single lane in both directions while crews secured the scene.
Patrols were increased, and traffic appears to be moving smoothly now, according to DriveBC cameras.
The rockfall occurred a few kilometres north of Summerland and is separate from the ongoing North Beach slide site. While some rocks fell onto the southbound lanes, there are no reports of injuries.
