VJH Foundation has up to $200K in matching donations for GivingTuesday

The agency that supports local health care services is getting some extra support as part of GivingTuesday.

Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation (VJH Foundation) said up to $200,000 in community donations to its Light a Bulb campaign would be matched Tuesday, Dec. 2.

“GivingTuesday is a global day of giving recognized around the world,” Kate McBrearty, executive director of the VJH Foundation, said.

“What better way to celebrate it than with a community like ours that truly understands the power to drive change through acts of generosity?”

The funds are being matched thanks to a donation from Anita Finlay. She and her late-husband, Wray, have been active members of the Lake Country community for nearly 40 years as some of the founders of Wood Lake Cable, a TV service for the region, and in helping introduce a number of amenities to the community including the expansion of natural gas service to outlying areas.

“My parents were always looking for ways to give back to the community,” Judy, Anita and Wray Finlay’s daughter, said.

“This recent gift to VJH Foundation is simply another part of that legacy. My Mom wants to honour my Dad and their joint desire to have a lasting impact on healthcare in the North Okanagan.”

Money raised in the Light A Bulb campaign will be used to purchase a Thulium laser for the urology department, as well as a CO₂ laser and a microscope for the ear, nose and throat department.

People can donate to the campaign through the VJH Foundation website, by calling 250-558-1362, or by visiting the VJH Foundation office in the hospital across from the pharmacy.
