Hospital Fundraiser

Annual Light-A-Bulb fundraiser underway

Nov 19, 2025 | 8:00 AM

The annual fundraiser in support of the local hospital launched Wednesday morning.

The Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation is accepting donations to its 39th annual Light-A-Bulb campaign from November 19 to December 31.

Money raised through the fundraiser will be put towards replacing three critical surgical pieces:

  • A Thulium laser for breaking up stones in the body, such as kidney stones (Urology Department)
  • A CO₂ laser for precise and minimally invasive removal of tumors, polyps and other growths in the throat, larynx and nose (Ear, Nose and Throat Department)
  • A microscope to be used for complex surgical procedures in intricate ear, nose and throat structures (ENT Department)

These three items have reached the end of their life and must be replaced. Without them, North Okanagan patients would need to travel to Kamloops or beyond for treatment.

“Over 2,600 operations are performed annually on these three pieces of equipment alone,” Kate McBrearty, Executive Director of the VJH Foundation, said.

“Lasers and microscopes are essential equipment that directly contribute to less invasive surgeries, shorter recovery times and better patient outcomes.

“When you light a bulb this holiday season, you’re lighting the way to better healthcare for our community. Together, let’s ensure everyone has access to the best care possible, right here at home.”

People can donate to the Light-A-Bulb campaign online, by calling 250-558-1362, or by visiting the VJH Foundation office in the hospital across from the pharmacy.
