Bertram "Kim" Sacht

Bertram “Kimberly” Sacht a man who lived life with fearless curiosity and confidence died August 21, 2025 at the age of 89. Kim was born October 13, 1935, at the Rock Bay Hospital, to Louis Frederick Sacht and Anna Ethel Kelsey and was brother to Frances, Dorothy and Lawrence all predeceased.
Kim was raised in the Sayward Valley to a pioneer Logging Family. He went to school until Grade 11 and then followed in his fathers footsteps into the logging industry for the next 50 years. He was part of various successful logging companies on Vancouver Island, Mid B.C. Coast and in the Interior of B.C.
As a boy Kim learned to fish, hunt, garden, sail and adventure. He travelled to Mexico, Cuba, New Zealand, Africa and most of British Columbia exploring the best fishing opportunities.
In 1956 Kim met Judith Kathleen Richardson from Comox B.C. She had come to Sayward to teach in the local school. They were married July 6, 1957 and over the next eight years welcomed 5 children. Kathleen Dorothy,(m. Steve Logan) Jane Leslie (m. Morey Walker) Roger Louis (m. Sheila Martin) Timothy Kelsey (m.Susan Vegh(1) m.Rita Barchard(2) and Arnold Benjamin.
Kim was to marry two more times following the death of Judy in 1983. Bonnie Denis (1984) and Anne Halliday (2010.) Kim leaves behind Grandchildren Ky, Ben, Amiel, Lyahna, Kelsey, Ian, Adam and Claire. He was great grandpa to Lexus, Keon, Tajai, Oliver, Juliette and Ellyrah.
Kim was an avid reader and lifetime learner with books piled by his chair and subscription magazines arriving every month for his whole life. He loved dinner parties, a good beer in a “cooled glass” and red Chilean wine. Kim loved to dance and he could jive, square dance, round dance, waltz and do the fox trot. He loved the theatre and live music and movie nights out. Kim’s work ethic and commitment to getting things done was inspiring.
He was asked at a dinner party one night “Would you do anything different in your life if you had the chance?”, “Nothing, he replied just make different mistakes.”
Kim’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers of Nicola Ward on the Third Floor of The Hamlets. Truly special humans.
