Plan your commute in Kelowna as school season begins
With students heading back to class, Kelowna officials are urging residents to plan ahead, stay alert and exercise caution near construction zones.
Construction projects across the city, including road improvements, parks upgrades and utility work, may affect school pick-up and drop-off routes. Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians are encouraged to follow posted signs and watch for crews working on site.
One major project this year is the Frost Road extension and Chute Lake Road roundabout. The temporary closure of Chute Lake Road between Barnaby Road and South Crest Drive is expected to last about two months. Officials say the full closure allows crews to complete the work about five weeks sooner and will result in expanded transportation options, improved safety, upgraded sidewalks and bike lanes once finished.
The city is investing more than $150 million in infrastructure improvements this year, acknowledging that some disruptions are unavoidable. Residents can check traffic impacts and construction updates using the interactive road report at kelowna.ca/roadreport to plan their commutes and avoid delays.
