It is with heartfelt sadness the family of Margaret “Jean” Ryley (nee Woolsey) announce her passing on August 3, 2025, at the age of 98.
Mom had a wonderful, fulfilling last day of life, doing what she enjoyed most – playing bridge with her closest friends, attending her sister’s 90th birthday party, visiting with her adored Woolsey relatives and having her last meal with Parkwood dining companions. She slipped away peacefully during the night with both daughters at her side.
Jean was an inspiration to all. Independent, strong, wise and very stoic. A teacher for life, she shared her knowledge and wisdom in many different ways. Born a farm girl in Valaparaiso, Sask on October 24,1926, she had many engaging and informative stories to share. She was a fun, loyal friend to many, a loving Mother, Grandmother, Great grandmother (GG as she was so fondly called) Sister and Aunt.
Mom lost the love of her life, Jim, when she was only 46. With a heavy heart but with her head held high, she made the most of a new life, raising her children, travelling, golfing and spending several years with partners Mike Sandes, Andy Fernuik and their extended families.
She is survived by her children: Marney (Mike), Bryan (Margaret), Shannon (Dan), Jim (Shannon) and grandchildren: Pat, Jenn, Alexis, Sarah, Katie, Amy,Ty and Seth. Great grandchildren: Sela, Noah, Emma, Lynzee, Oliver, Henry, Menah, Aidan, Pyper, Dax, Nora Jean, and Elsie. Sister: Joan Woolsey and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by husbands: Jim, Mike and Andy; sister Helen, brothers Bill & Roy, parents Clarence & Tina as well as cherished friends and relatives.
Per Mom’s wishes, there will be no service. Our family plans to meet at a future date in Cranbrook to lay her to rest with Dad, so they may be “Together Again – Forever”.
We wish to send a special thank you to the staff at Regency Parkwood (Mom’s cruise ship) who were always so kind and helpful, and especially to OJ Taylor, who provided exemplary care and a companionship that Mom savoured in her last years.
Think of her as living,
In the hearts of those she touched,
For nothing loved is ever lost, and
She was loved so much
