Nominees selected for North Okanagan Sports Awards

The best athletes, teams and leaders in the North Okanagan will be recognized for their sports excellence later this month.

The 2025 Tim Hortons North Okanagan Sports Awards will be handed out at a special ceremony outside Vernon City Hall at 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 11.

The selection committee has announced nominees, which came from public submissions, that will be in the running for the awards.

  • Leadership Award:
    • Norm Crerar, Silver Star Resort and other sports activities in the area
    • Steve Feedham, founder of Vernon and Area Senior Slo-Pitch League
    • Mike Grace, school administrator and coach of numerous school sports teams
    • Diana Wenzlaff, organizer of local running events
  • Team of the Year Award:
    • Vernon Senior Secondary senior gils basketball team, which placed third at provincials
    • Seaton Secondary girls gymnastics team, which won gold at provincials
  • Athlete of the year:
    • Cassandra brown, basketball
    • Shayla Flanagan, gymnastics
    • Shanda Hill, ultra athlete
    • Sierra Monroe, rower and biathlete

The North Okanagan Sports Awards date back to 1993, when former NHL forward Brent Gilchrist was named the first Athlete of the Year. The winners are chosen by a selection committee comprised of community members.
