Mission Creek Landing long term care being redeveloped, expanded

Jun 28, 2024 | 11:30 AM

The long-term care facility located adjacent to the Mission Creek Regional Park is being upgraded.

The province announced that 140 new publicly funded long-term care beds would be added to the Mission Creek Landing facility, bringing the site’s capacity up to 241 residents.

“The construction of more new long-term care beds in Kelowna is another significant step forward in our efforts to ensure seniors receive care in homes designed to meet their needs,” Adrian Dix, Minister of Health, said.

“Seniors in our province deserve to age in comfort and dignity in high-quality long-term care homes in the community they live. Seniors in Kelowna can look forward to more public beds in this state-of-the-art facility.”

The facility will be redeveloped and expanded in two phases.

The first will see 101 existing beds and 30 new beds opening October 31, 2024. The remaining 110 new beds will open in late 2026.

All existing beds will remain open through construction.

“Long-term care homes are more than just a place for seniors to receive care, it’s their home,” Harwinder Sandhu, Parliamentary Secretary for Senior Services and Long-Term Care, said.

“They are a place for residents to call home and age with dignity and live peacefully. The expansion of this long-term care home by the Mission Creek Regional Park delivers on our commitment to ensuring people in British Columbia receive the health care they need at any age.”

The current Mission Creek Landing facility opened in the 1970s, with the province stating the upgraded facility will have enhanced care spaces, more natural light, improved safety features, and passive and active amenity rooms.
