Coldstream council has given the green light to a new wood truss plant on the former glass plant site in Lavington.

Council approved an amended development permit for PBS Truss Manufacturing for property on Hill Drive.

“The purpose for the permit was to address design changes for form and character and reducing greenhouse gas emissions,” a news release from the District of Coldstream stated.

District of Coldstream staff are supporting a new industrial business on the former glass plant site in Lavington.

PBS Truss Manufacturing is proposing to build a wood truss plant on an industrial strata lot of 0.22 hectares at 9623 Hill Drive as part of the Okanagan Eco Park.

The plant will source building material to Pro Builders Supply, which operates Home Hardware Building Centres in Kelowna, Penticton, Osoyoos, and Olds and Canmore, Alberta.

The site used to be the Owens Illinois Consumer Glass Plant which operated from 1969 to 2008.

An amendment to the development permit was requested by DAAS Architecture due to the proposed changes to the architectural design of the industrial office building, specifically, replacing the original Kalwall design with a metal cladding wall design.

“The reasons for the proposed changes included negative impacts on the overall budget, construction costs, and project scheduling,” the staff report to council from planner Howie Choy stated.

District staff are recommending council support the development permit with conditions, including that any, and all, plans associated with the permit be in compliance with the approved development permit drawings, prepared by DAAS Architecture, to the satisfaction of the district.
