Investigation into downtown fire ongoing

Police in Vernon say the investigation into the fire that destroyed a downtown building and several businesses is ongoing, but that’s about all they are saying.

The fire levelled the Okanagan Eatery building on the corner of 30th Street and 29th Avenue in the early hours of July 4th, and took several hours to bring under control.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP told Vernon Matters that, as of October 18, the investigation was ongoing, more than three months since the incident occurred.

The Mounties ask that anyone with information on the fire, including security camera or dashcam footage, contact the Vernon detachment at 250-545-7171.

The site of the fire has been fenced off since the blaze was extinguished, but earlier this month, the property owner said work was underway to clear the site, though an exact timeline for that work, as well as future plans for the site, were not known at the time.
